ANTIQUE JAPANESE CALLIGRAPHY ON HAND MADE WASHI PAPER

This piece of old calligraphy was found rolled up with other paper items in an Antique Japanese Trunk  I purchased at an Antique Market .

After some research I belive this piece of antique calligraphy date from the mid to late MEIJI era 1868 - 1912  .

The Meiji era  is an era of Japanese history which extended from October 23, 1868 to July 30, 1912.

This era represents the first half of the Empire of Japan, during which period the Japanese people moved from being an isolated feudal society at risk of colonisation by European powers to the new paradigm of a modern, industrialised nation state

You do not need to be a Japanese calligraphy expert to appreciate the beauty of the brush work .

27.5mm wide
20mm high

NOTE  The piece of Calligraphy has been nibbled by insects .
